Environmental Approvals Bilateral Agreement

The EPBC Amending Act pursues the same legislative objective as the « one-stop-shop » reforms proposed in the Environmental Protection and Biodiversity Conservation (Implementation of the Bilateral Agreement) Act 2014 (Cth). The proposed amendments all focus on changes to the provisions of the bilateral agreement, in particular to facilitate the advancement of authorization agreements with states and territories. The bill does not address the legally enforceable national environmental standards proposed by Professor Samuel in the interim report, as was generally expected. If this procedure is confirmed as an appropriate process under the bilateral procedure, the process will be managed by the Environmental Protection Agency (CEPOL), in consultation with this division. .
